Fields of Mistria Romance: Full Marriage, Proposal & Family Guide
Complete Fields of Mistria romance guide: hearts, engagement ring crafting, wedding planning, marriage, and children in the 1.0 update.
Overview
The Fields of Mistria romance system lets you date, propose, marry, and start a family with any single villager. The 1.0 update added the full marriage pipeline: engagement rings, wedding ceremonies, spouse furniture, and children. This guide walks you through the entire romance sequence in order, from reaching 10 hearts to raising a child.
Direct outcome: By following these steps, you can get engaged, marry your chosen candidate, and have a child in about 30+ in-game days after reaching 10 hearts.
Requirements Before Starting Romance
Before you can pursue romance in Fields of Mistria, you need to meet these prerequisites:
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| 10 hearts with your chosen candidate | Max friendship level; required for engagement |
| Access to Ancient Ruins (Mine Floors 81–99) | Required materials drop here |
| Blacksmithing Station | Craft the engagement ring (March's house or your farm) |
| Mine Floor 90 unlocked | Needed for the Dragon Forge to craft Dragon Forged Core |
Note: Only villagers marked as "single" in their Social tab page are romance candidates. Since v0.14.0, both Romantic and Best Friend routes are available for all candidates.
Step-by-Step Romance Sequence
Step 1: Reach 10 Hearts and Trigger the Engagement Tutorial
Once you reach 10 hearts with any romance candidate, the next day Elsie will visit your house to explain the engagement process. She gives you the engagement ring recipe and explains how proposals work.
Key mechanics:
- You can use the ring to invite someone you're dating to "discuss your future"
- Discussing the future does not force a proposal — you can change your mind
- You can trigger this discussion scene as many times as you like before finalizing
Step 2: Craft the Engagement Ring
The recipe scroll appears automatically in your inventory after Elsie's visit. Craft at any blacksmithing station.
Required materials:
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Gold Ingot | 4 |
| Mist Ingot | 4 |
| Diamond | 2 |
| Dragon Forged Core | 1 |
Dragon Forged Core recipe (crafted at Dragon Forge, Mine Floor 90):
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monster Core | 5 |
| Mist Ingot | 1 |
| Pink Diamond | 1 |
| Ancient Firefly | 1 |
| Medium Essence Stone | 1 |
Crafting the Dragon Forged Core takes 0 minutes, so you can make it anytime. The completed engagement ring sells for 8,930 gold if you ever want to sell it.
Step 3: Propose to Your Partner
With the ring in hand, approach your 10-heart partner and select the new "Discuss" option. This initiates a walk-and-talk cutscene where you'll eventually ask the question.
Proposal sequence:
- Select "I want to talk to you about our future together"
- Your partner responds
- You pop the question
- If accepted, you're officially engaged
Important: Once engaged, all other romantic relationships automatically change to best friend status. You'll receive breakup letters from every former love interest in the mail the next day. There's no divorce mechanic in version 1.0.
Step 4: Plan the Wedding
Immediately after the proposal, a calendar appears so you can pick your wedding date. The earliest possible date is 5 days after the proposal.
During the engagement period, talk to your fiancé(e) to customize:
- Flower decoration colors
- Wedding cake flavor
- Reception meal
Every other villager also has unique congratulatory dialogue the first time you speak to them.
Step 5: Wedding Day
On the wedding day, Elsie and Josephine escort you to the Sleeping Dragon Inn. The town handles all farm chores automatically (watering crops, feeding animals), so you can enjoy the day.
Wedding customization options:
| Category | Options |
|---|---|
| Dresses | Mermaid Gown, Caped Gown, Romantic Gown (multiple colorways each) |
| Suits | Simple, plus two fancier options |
| Headwear | Veils, Flower Clips, Top Hats |
You keep the outfit permanently after the wedding.
The ceremony is a semi-interactive cutscene with Mistria-specific traditions (lighting candles, vows). Afterward, everyone heads to the inn for a reception with a toast and cake.
Step 6: Married Life
After the wedding:
- Your spouse moves into your farmhouse with an altered daily schedule
- You receive 3 pieces of spouse-exclusive furniture in the mail the next day
- Each spouse has unique furniture they interact with differently
- You receive an exclusive wedding photo
Step 7: Starting a Family
16 days after marriage, a dream cutscene triggers when you go to bed. The Great Bird (Mistria's equivalent of a stork) appears and gives you a Mystical Feather.
To have a child:
- Hand the Mystical Feather to your spouse
- Discuss starting a family (you can decline — this is optional)
- Go to sleep to trigger the next dream sequence
- Choose how the child enters the world: delivered by the bird or carry the child yourself (pregnancy)
Timeline:
- Your character does not appear pregnant regardless of choice
- The baby arrives 13 days after the decision
- If you chose pregnancy, you'll get a clinic scene when labor starts
- If you chose delivery, you skip the clinic scene
Step 8: Raising Your Child
After birth, you can:
- Name your baby (randomly generated names available)
- Carry the baby on your back (press G to hold/put down)
- Place the baby in the cradle (received via mail from Landon)
- Go on dates with your spouse while the baby is in someone else's care
Note: Babies inherit physical traits from parents (e.g., a dragon parent's horns or eye color), but trait variety appears limited based on player reports.
Common Mistakes & Failure Points
| Mistake | Consequence | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Not reaching Mine Floor 90 | Can't craft Dragon Forged Core | Progress through floors 81–99 first |
| Proposing before 10 hearts | Ring won't work | Check heart level in Social tab |
| Giving rings to multiple characters | All relationships become best friends after engagement | Commit to one candidate |
| Missing the 5-day minimum window | Can't schedule wedding earlier | Plan around the 5-day minimum |
| Ignoring the Mystical Feather | Can't start a family | Keep the feather in inventory |
| Expecting pregnancy visuals | Character doesn't appear pregnant | The baby arrives at 13 days regardless |
Advanced Tips
- Stockpile mining materials early. The Dragon Forged Core requires items from floors 81–99, so farm those floors before you hit 10 hearts to avoid delays.
- The engagement ring can be sold for 8,930 gold if you change your mind — but you'll need to craft another one to propose.
- Trigger the proposal discussion multiple times to see all dialogue options without committing. This lets you preview scenes before finalizing.
- Decorate the nursery before the baby arrives. The cradle arrives in the mail immediately after birth, but you'll want furniture ready.
- Your spouse may still visit their old location (e.g., the Deep Woods) after marriage. This is normal behavior.
- Dates continue after having a child. You can leave the baby with Josephine or other townsfolk, though some spouses may bring the baby along on dates.
