Who Can You Romance in Fields of Mistria?
Not every villager in Mistria is a romance candidate. While you can build Friendship with all of Mistria's residents, Romance is only possible with villagers marked as "single" in their Social tab page. As your friendship deepens with these candidates, you'll unlock Dating and eventually Marriage.
Current Romance Candidates
As of version 1.0, the confirmed romance options are:
| Bachelorettes | Bachelors |
|---|---|
| Celine | Balor |
| Juniper | March |
Note: This list reflects the candidates confirmed in the official Fields of Mistria Wiki as of the v1.0.0 update. Additional romance candidates may be added in future updates, and some sources suggest more characters may become available over time.
Prerequisites for Romance
Before you can pursue a romantic relationship, you need to meet several requirements:
- Friendship Level: You must raise your friendship with your chosen candidate to specific heart levels.
- Heart Events: Each candidate has heart events that trigger as your friendship grows.
- The 8-Heart Decision: At the end of the 8 Heart Event, you'll be prompted to choose between the Dating option (shown in pink) or the Best Friends option. Choosing Dating commits you to the romantic route.
Romantic vs. Best Friend Routes
Since v0.14.0, Fields of Mistria has offered both Romantic and Best Friend routes for all romance candidates. This means you can pursue a deep platonic relationship if you prefer, but for marriage, you must select the romantic route.
How to Propose and Get Married
Once you've reached the required friendship level and completed the necessary heart events, you can propose to your chosen partner. Here's the complete sequence:
Step 1: Complete the Dating Phase
After choosing the Dating option at the 8 Heart Event, continue building your relationship. Attend dates and raise your friendship further to unlock the proposal opportunity.
Step 2: Propose
When the proposal option becomes available, finalize it. You'll immediately be prompted to select a wedding date within the current year.
Important timing note: The earliest possible wedding date is 5 days after the day of your proposal. Plan accordingly if you want a specific season for your ceremony.
Step 3: Customize Your Wedding
In the days leading up to your wedding, talk to your now-fiancé(e) to customize several aspects of the ceremony:
- Flower decoration colors
- Wedding cake flavor
- Meal served at the reception
After a successful proposal, every other character in town will have unique congratulatory lines the first time you talk to them.
Step 4: The Wedding Day
The entire wedding day is a semi-interactive cutscene. Here's what to expect:
- When you wake up, you'll be escorted to the Sleeping Dragon Inn's guest room to get dressed.
- You'll be given a selection of wedding outfits to choose from—you keep the outfit you pick permanently, even after the wedding.
- The ceremony commences and takes up the entire day.
- Your chores (watering crops, feeding and petting animals) are automatically handled by the townsfolk.
Step 5: Life After Marriage
After the wedding ceremony:
- Your spouse moves into the farmhouse and follows an altered daily schedule.
- The day after the wedding, you'll receive 3 pieces of your spouse's furniture in the mail to decorate your shared house.
- Each spouse has unique furniture that they interact with differently once placed.
Step 6: Children
Two weeks after your marriage ceremony, when you go to bed, a special cutscene will play that lets you and your spouse discuss having children.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
1. Choosing the Wrong Route at 8 Hearts
The most common mistake is accidentally selecting the Best Friends option instead of Dating. This locks you out of the romantic route for that candidate. If you want marriage, always choose the pink Dating option.
2. Proposing Without Enough Time
Remember that the earliest wedding date is 5 days after your proposal. If you propose late in a season, you may be stuck with a wedding date you don't want. Plan your proposal timing carefully.
3. Missing Customization Windows
Wedding customization options are only available in the days between your proposal and the ceremony. If you don't talk to your fiancé(e) during this window, you'll miss the chance to customize your ceremony.
4. Neglecting Chores on Wedding Day
Don't worry about this one—the townsfolk handle your chores automatically on your wedding day. But don't expect this courtesy to continue afterward!
Advanced Tips
Plan Your Proposal Around the Calendar
Since the earliest wedding date is 5 days after proposing, think about what season and weather you want for your ceremony. If you want a spring wedding, propose early enough in spring to make it happen.
Customize Immediately
Talk to your fiancé(e) every day between proposal and wedding to ensure you don't miss any customization options. The game doesn't remind you about these choices.
Collect Your Spouse's Furniture Early
The 3 pieces of spouse furniture arrive in the mail the day after your wedding. Place them immediately to see your spouse's unique interactions and make your shared house feel like home.
Prepare for the Children Cutscene
The children discussion cutscene triggers two weeks after marriage when you go to bed. Make sure you're ready for this conversation—it's a significant commitment.
No Divorce Mechanic
As of version 1.0, there is no divorce mechanic in Fields of Mistria. Your marriage choice is permanent with current game mechanics. Choose your partner carefully.
