Fields of Mistria: How to Romance, Get Engaged, and Marry
Step-by-step guide to romance in Fields of Mistria: raise hearts, date, craft the engagement ring, propose, plan the wedding, and start a family.
What This Guide Covers
This guide walks you through the full romance path in Fields of Mistria — from building friendship with a single villager to proposing, planning the wedding, and starting a family. You'll get the exact sequence of actions, the materials you need for the engagement ring, and what to expect at each milestone. This is based on the v1.0.0 full release.
The complete romance path looks like this:
Reach 10 hearts → Trigger Elsie's engagement visit → Craft the engagement ring → Propose → Pick a wedding date → Wedding ceremony → Spouse moves in → Child cutscene (16 days later) → Baby arrives
Prerequisites
Before you can start dating, you need to meet a few conditions:
- Romanceable candidates only: Romance is only possible with villagers marked as "single" in their Social tab page. Not every resident of Mistria is a romance candidate.
- 8 hearts to date: Once you have 8 hearts with a romance candidate, you can take them on an actual date. Choose the "Dating" option (shown in pink) when talking to them.
- 10 hearts to propose: You must reach the maximum heart level (10 hearts) before you can propose.
- Mines access to floor 90: The engagement ring requires materials from the Ancient Ruins section of the mines (floors 81–99). You'll need to reach floor 90 to unlock the Dragon Forge, which is required to craft a Dragon Forged Core.
- Blacksmithing station: You need access to a blacksmithing station — either the one in front of March's house or one you've purchased for your farm.
How to Build Hearts
Raising hearts with a romance candidate works the same way as building friendship with any villager:
- Talk to them every day — This is the most reliable way to gain hearts.
- Give them gifts — One gift per day. Each NPC has preferences; gifts they love will give more heart points.
- Complete quests for them — Villagers will occasionally request help, and completing these requests boosts friendship.
- Go on dates — Once you reach 8 hearts, you can invite them on dates, which further increases your bond.
Step-by-Step Romance Guide
Step 1: Reach 10 Hearts
Focus on one romance candidate and raise their hearts to 10. You can date multiple characters simultaneously before engagement, but once you propose to one, all other romantic relationships will automatically change to best friend status.
Step 2: Trigger Elsie's Engagement Visit
The day after you reach 10 hearts with any character, Elsie will show up at your door when you go outside. She'll explain how engagements work and share the engagement ring recipe with you. This mirrors the earlier visit where she explained how dating works.
Step 3: Craft the Engagement Ring
You'll need to craft the engagement ring at a blacksmithing station. The recipe requires:
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Gold Ingot | 4 |
| Mist Ingot | 4 |
| Diamond | 2 |
| Dragon Forged Core | 1 |
To craft the Dragon Forged Core, you need to reach floor 90 in the mines to unlock the Dragon Forge. The core requires:
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Monster Cores | 5 |
| Mist Ingot | 1 |
| Pink Diamond | 1 |
| Ancient Firefly | 1 |
| Medium Essence Stone | 1 |
The Dragon Forged Core takes zero minutes to craft, so you can make it at the end of the day if needed. If you decide to sell it instead, it's worth 8,930 gold.
Step 4: Propose
Once you have the engagement ring, approach your 10-heart romance candidate. A new "Discuss" option will appear when you're holding the ring. This initiates a cutscene where you go for a walk together. You'll be the one to initiate the actual proposal by saying "I want to talk to you about our future together."
Important: You can trigger this discussion scene as many times as you like. Discussing your future doesn't mean you have to go through with the proposal — you can change your mind before making the final decision.
Step 5: Pick Your Wedding Date
Immediately after a successful proposal, a calendar will pop up and you'll select your wedding date. The earliest possible date is 5 days after the day of the proposal.
Step 6: Breakup Letters
The day after you get engaged, check your mailbox. You'll receive breakup letters from every other character you were dating. Each character has unique dialogue — some are kind, some are dramatic, and some are blunt. You can also talk to them in person the next day for additional breakup conversations.
Step 7: Plan the Wedding
In the days leading up to the wedding, you can talk to your fiancé(e) to customize certain aspects of the ceremony:
- Color of flower decorations
- Flavor of the wedding cake
- Meal served at the reception
Other townsfolk will also have unique congratulatory lines the first time you talk to them after a successful proposal.
Step 8: Wedding Day
On the day of your wedding, Elsie and Josephine will arrive at your door to escort you to the Sleeping Dragon Inn. The entire town has pitched in to handle your chores — crops are watered and animals are fed automatically, so your only job is to enjoy the day.
At the inn, you'll get to choose your wedding outfit from several options:
- Wedding dresses: Mermaid, caped, and romantic styles, each with multiple colorways
- Wedding suits: Simple and fancier options
- Headwear: Wedding veils, flower clips, or top hats
You get to keep the outfit permanently after the wedding.
The ceremony itself follows Mistria's unique traditions: you and your spouse light two candles, then combine them to light a middle candle together. Your wedding vows are personalized to your chosen character. After the ceremony, there's a reception at the inn with a toast from Celine and the entire town in attendance.
Step 9: Married Life
After the wedding:
- Your spouse moves in to your farmhouse and has an altered daily schedule
- You receive a wedding photo — a new exclusive item
- Check your mailbox: The day after the wedding, you'll receive 3 pieces of furniture exclusive to your spouse. Each spouse has their own themed furniture set that they interact with differently once placed.
Step 10: Starting a Family
About 16 days after the wedding, when you go to bed, a special dream sequence triggers. A Great Bird appears and asks if you've considered starting a family. This is completely optional — the game won't force the decision on you.
The Great Bird gives you a Mystical Feather. To start the family conversation, hand the feather to your spouse. They'll initiate a discussion about whether you both want children. If you both agree, go to sleep to trigger the next scene.
In the follow-up dream sequence, you'll choose how you want the child to enter the world:
- Delivered by the Great Bird (stork-style)
- Carry the child yourself (pregnancy)
Your character won't appear pregnant either way. About half a season (13 days) later, if you chose pregnancy, your spouse will say the baby is coming and you'll go to the clinic. If you chose delivery, you'll skip the clinic scene.
At the birth, you'll name your child — you can pick from randomly generated names or choose your own. After returning home, check your mailbox for a letter from Landon with your baby cradle.
Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Proposing Without 10 Hearts
The engagement ring only works on someone with 10 hearts. Don't waste materials crafting the ring before you've maxed out your chosen candidate's hearts.
Not Reaching Mine Floor 90
The Dragon Forged Core requires the Dragon Forge, which unlocks at floor 90. If you haven't progressed that far in the mines, you won't be able to craft the ring no matter how many hearts you have.
Dating Everyone at Once
While you can date multiple characters before engagement, be prepared for the consequences. The moment you propose to one person, all other romantic relationships convert to best friend status, and you'll receive breakup letters from everyone. If you're not ready for that emotional damage, pick one and focus.
Assuming the Discussion Is the Proposal
When you use the ring to "Discuss" your future, this is not the same as proposing. You can back out at this stage. The actual proposal is a separate choice within the discussion cutscene. Don't panic if you accidentally trigger the discussion early — you can try again later.
Forgetting to Customize the Wedding
You can customize flower colors, cake flavor, and reception meal in the days before the wedding. If you don't talk to your fiancé(e) about these options, you'll miss out on personalizing your ceremony.
Advanced Tips
Gift Preferences Matter
While talking daily is the baseline, gifts are the fastest way to raise hearts. Pay attention to what each character likes — universally loved gifts will accelerate your timeline significantly.
You Can Date Multiple Characters (Until You Can't)
The game allows you to take multiple characters on dates and even trigger the engagement discussion with more than one. This can help you decide who you really want to marry, but remember: proposing to one converts all others to best friends. Triggering the discussion scene doesn't lock you in, so use it as a test run.
Wedding Outfits Are Permanent
The wedding outfits you choose are yours to keep forever. This is your chance to get a unique outfit you can't buy anywhere else. Try on all the options before committing.
Spouse Furniture Is Exclusive
The 3 furniture pieces you receive after marriage are exclusive to your chosen spouse. Each spouse has their own themed set. If you want to collect them all, you'll need multiple playthroughs — or at least multiple save files.
Children Inherit Traits
Based on player reports, babies can inherit physical traits from both parents — hair color, eye color, skin tone, and even special features like dragon horns. If you're curious about what your child will look like, the mix is different for each couple.
No Divorce (Currently)
As of version 1.0, there is no divorce mechanic in the game. It's not currently known whether one is planned for future updates. Choose your spouse carefully — this is a long-term commitment.
